The claim under examination: the Qur'an is the literal, final revelation of the one God, delivered through Muhammad.
Standard · preponderance of the evidence, not proof
The verdict
Islam is a clear, coherent monotheism (strongly supported as a description). That the Qur'an is the literal speech of God is possible, but not established by historical evidence alone. Mainstream Islam offers strong hope in God's mercy rather than guaranteed assurance.
If you read nothing else
Islam honors Jesus as Messiah and prophet but denies his divinity and his crucifixion. That last claim puts it in direct conflict with the earlier historical record, which turns the whole investigation toward one man.
